History

The history of wine growing and winemaking of this area totals some thousand years. Moreover, the Sudak and valleys adjoining to them at all times and centuries were the most ancient center - the native land of domestic wine growing and winemaking. The grapevine - a symbol of force, beauty, wisdom and nobleness, and its blood brother - wine, is much more senior on age of bread. Subtleties of art of wine growing and winemaking store many people occupied southeast coast of Crimea in centuries. Finds of archeologists testify to it - the image of clusters on vases, coins, fixtures and walls of crypts, wine-press (tochila), the amphoras intended for storage of wine.

Among antique ruins of Chersonese the ancient rests of a monument on which the inscription has been cut are found out: "People honour statue Agasikl, multiplied vineyards on plain " (VI century B.C.).

Intensively mastering Crimea, Greeks, then genoeses supported winemaking at a good level.

In the beginning of our millenium large city of Crimea - the Sudak (Sugdea, Soldaya), second-largest after Feodosiya (Kafa), conducted intensive trade in wine, selling the wines under the name "Suroshski" in the slavic grounds. There are authentic data about life of a colony Soldaya which territory borrowed a coastal strip from Alushta up to village of Koz (nowadays settlement the Sun Valley) with villages Kutlak, Tokluk (1380). As marked L.Kolli in the narration " Khristofor DiNegro, last consul Soldai ", all this the coast has been occupied by Greeks, Tatars, Armenians, Italians and other people, hardworking farmers, enologists, truck farmers.

Industrial production of grapes and wine, its importance at that time proves to be true the Charter of 1449 about collecting trading gathering from each cart of the grapes delivered in Kafa (nowadays Feodosiya) and that during harvesting grapes since October, 15th the court in Kafe did not work.

About high quality of the Crimean faults, it is mentioned in Russian trading tariffs 1757-1782. In 1785 Gablits in the work " the Physical description of Taurian area " names 15 grades of the grapes growing in areas of the rivers Alma and Kacha, and also near the Sudak in Kapsel and Koz valleys.

And still during connection of Crimea to Russia (1783) in cultivation of grapes and winemaking stagnation and decline was observed. Under the initiative of prince Potyomkin in 1784 to Crimea have been delivered from abroad more than 20 thousand grapevines tokay grades from Hungary and four wine makers are invited. The first vineyards have been incorporated in Koz valley, and also in area of Old Crimea (5000 vines), Zuya (6000 vines), on Kacha (6000 vines).

However development of branch demanded not only hands, but also knowing experts.

In December, 1802 the Decree of tsar Alexander I two schools of wine growing and winemaking - Sudak and Kizlyar open. Device Sudak school is entrusted to academician Peter S. Pallasu who takes in the order of school two sites of the ground under vineyards in Sudak and Koz village. Peter S. In school, at the beginning, there were 10 pupils and 20 workers. Sudak school has existed 34 years and has been closed in 1836, as the lost value after establishment in 1824 Magarach school.

It is necessary to pay attention to the Decree from June, 7th, 1803 in which it was recommended: "... For the careless attitude to grape plantings guilty of it to subject to corporal punishment... ".

Taken administrative and other measures lead to increase in the areas of vineyards and gardens in Sudak zone, to ordering high-quality structure of grapes, its use for winemaking.
